- Serving communities with the greatest need. The founders of the Tilth Alliance noticed the loss of traditional farm economy and the drastic decline in farm population. They wanted to let others know that food is a cultural product, not a technological one, and didn’t want future generations to pass on without knowing this. The way they solved this, was by creating the Tilth Alliance, which brings together the community to learn how to plant crops while at the same time protect the environment, cook, and job training. Tilth focused on teaching younger kids so that they can grow up with the knowledge and pass it on. They want to focus on community growth, the smaller side to the population, and teach them about farming and environmental knowledge. Which will then become a bigger topic as the knowledge will be spread out even more to other communities or future generations, so that everyone will have the ability to sustain themselves and others, by producing food and preserving the environment. They push the need for younger generations to carry on with the knowledge, through speaking as well as hands on teaching. This November, Tilth Alliance will be holding a conference to talk about the slowing down of production season, as well as meet new people, share topics of production and challenges in agriculture. As well as have an industry trade show. They are also having a farm walk, where they take people on tours of farms and share their expertise with younger generations. Each year they collaborate with different people. This year they are partnering with Washington State University.Tilth does a great job at contributing to solving the problem. Each year the organization increases in popularity which results in a larger impact on the environment. This was the data in 2014.
- 10,000+ children attended farm and garden education camps
- 1700+ volunteers
- 1800+ members
- 11,000 attendees at community events
- 93,000+ organic plants sold
- 45,000 lbs of food grown
No company can solve this problem completely on their own, they can only hope to help contribute. Tilth has contributed a substantial amount of help over the years. They have done an excellent job contributing through several practices. They hold classes to educate the public on how to farm. They teach the public how to plant in a healthy way, without harming the environment. Lastly, they reach out to younger generations, ensuring that these practices will not disappear over the years. Targeting the kids protects the environment on a long term scale.
In our time of environmental crisis, I ask you, what you can do to help not only our environment but one another. It is time to stop postponing our contribution to the environment especially when our planet cannot wait, I ask you to volunteer at Tilth and help our world go green. Tilth is a wonderful organization that provides communities in need with organic foods, helps support our farmers, as well as improve our environment all together. There is not a better nonprofit organization that helps educate adults about the underlying issues about our environment but also helps educate children as well. We cannot wait any longer, our planet is worsening, communities are starving, therefore, I ask once again to volunteer and make a positive impact in your life but others as well.
